Ingredients
For the steak filling:
1 lb steak (ribeye, sirloin, or flank, thinly sliced) 🥩
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon salt 🧂
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
For the sandwich:
1 giant croissant or 2 large croissants 🥐
4 slices provolone or Swiss cheese 🧀
1/2 cup sautéed onions 🧅
1/2 cup sautéed bell peppers (optional) 🌶️
Lettuce and tomato slices (optional) 🥬🍅
Optional sauce:
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
1. Prepare the steak:
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil.
Season the steak slices with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika.
Cook steak slices in the skillet for 2-3 minutes per side until browned and cooked to your desired doneness. Remove and set aside.
2. Sauté onions and peppers:
In the same skillet, add a touch more oil if needed and sauté the onions and peppers until softened and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
3. Toast the croissant:
Slice the giant croissant in half lengthwise.
Lightly toast the cut sides in a skillet or in the oven until golden brown.
4. Assemble the sandwich:
Spread the sauce (if using) on the toasted sides of the croissant. Layer the bottom half with lettuce, tomato, and sautéed onions and peppers.
Pile on the cooked steak slices.
Top with cheese slices and place under a broiler for 1-2 minutes to melt the cheese (optional).
Cover with the top half of the croissant.
5. Serve immediately:
Cut in half or quarters if sharing, and serve with French fries, potato chips, or a fresh salad.
Tips for perfection:
Use freshly baked croissants for the best texture.
Substitute steak with grilled chicken or roast beef for variety.
Add a drizzle of hot sauce or barbecue sauce for extra flavor.
Enjoy this decadent croissant sandwich for an elegant and satisfying meal! 🥐🧀
